Featuring

Guest Organist George Krejci

George began his musical studies at a very early age and has been entertaining audiences for almost 55 years. Coming from a musical family, he started as a singer and was a regular performer on one of Cleveland’s local television shows. By the age of ten he had switched to piano studies followed a few years later by organ studies. George was fortunate to have Earl Newmann, organist for Cleveland’s famous Rollercade skating rink as his organ teacher. It was at this time that the Rollercade, the country’s largest roller rink, was installing a “new” organ, a 1926 15-rank Wurlitzer theatre organ. Watching the weekly progress of such a large project fascinated him and he was hooked for life. While serving in the US Navy, George kept in practice by playing for church services in San Diego, Guam, and Hawaii. During his tour in Hawaii, he soon became house organist for the Hawaii Theater in Honolulu, home of a large Robert Morton theatre organ. His theatre organ stylings were honed by the great John DeMello, who taught George how to cue silent movies. Since John started his long career in 1921, George is one of the few remaining organists who was taught the authentic style of movie cuing by an original silent movie theatre organist. Returning to the mainland, George soon became organist for Cleveland’s Lamplighter Inn, home of a Kimball theatre organ, where he stayed until its closing twenty years later. George also served as an organist for the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball games and other sporting events. George has presented theatre organ concerts in Detroit, Royal Oak, Morenci, and Mt. Clemens Michigan, Cleveland and Lorain Ohio, Erie Pennsylvania, Lockport New York, North Tonawanda New York, where he presented a record breaking 29 annual performances, and Miami, Coral Gables, and Key Largo Florida. He has performed on television in Honolulu, Cleveland, and Buffalo. He has recorded many organ sequencer tapes for Vizcaya Museum in Miami In 1994 these tapes were used to provide “live” pipe organ music for President Clinton and 34 other world leaders at the Summit of the Americas conference. George and his wife Mary own Krejci & Sons Pipe Organ Service. They rebuild and maintain pipe organs throughout northern Ohio. Although no longer residents of Cleveland, George also serves as organist at Corpus Christi church in Cleveland, where Mary serves as director of music.

Enjoy Holidays in the Old West End with George Krejci at the theatre pipe organ! George will astound you with some wonderful holiday musical memories.
On screen, 2 short silent films produced just after the turn of the century that reflect the way the Old West End was at the time the Collingwood Arts Center was built. (1905) These were both shot in the winter months and we can now see how our grand-parents grew up back then. George also has some other surprises  in store...don't miss this great winter delight!

Guest Organist Father Andrew Rogers

A resident of Fenton, Michigan, Father Andrew Rogers is Pastor of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Dearborn. He began his musical studies on the accordian at age 7, winning local and national

He accompanied Father Jim Miller on his last tour of Australia appearing in joint concerts and solo engagements. He also works full time in a travel agency and is a staff organist at Detroit's Fox Theatre. He is a member of the Global Harmony Band, and is now a Director of the Foundation for Global Harmony.
